Thanks for another great video! I'm looking for the perfect Parlour guitar. I have one by Tanglewood, but I'd really like something better. A Martin would be great but the prices are just silly as they don't make one in their Standard line. What is the make & model you were playing? I live in the USA and many UK guitar makes don't make it here. Tanglewood for example is hardly heard of this side of the Atlantic. Couldn't quite see the name of the guitar you were playing. As a retired, British pub entertainer of about your age, I find your videos very interesting. Please keep up the great work.

Fascinating as ever. I always thought the 000 was the short scale version of the OM, but perhaps this is a recent distinction, or perhaps the 12 and 14 fret variants are different. Either way, I’ve always loved short scale 0, 00 and 000 guitars for playing at home.

I have had a Martin 00-18 for two years, taken me from beginner to intermediate, very comfortable with such an inspiring voice it really pushes you on, it is great for all styles and I haven’t regretted the expense for a second, worth every penny

Thanks Andy. My audience has outgrown my Martin 00. Setting is still "parlor" or living room. We had 90 yesterday (July 4). Currently using a dreadnought or 12-fret Super Jumbo. Electronics might help, but gets complicated fast.

Thanks Andy. A lot of my singing and playing is in a "parlor" or large living room (carpet, stuffed furniture and couchs, sound absorbing ceiling tiles and various lights. My groups were small on the beginning, 7 to 10 residents were singing along with me and a Martin 00-28. Larger sessions have 29 to 80 attendance. That requires a louder guitar (no electronics, and largely finger style). I have found a few dreadnoughts, a Kevin Kopp Trail Boss (improved SJ-200). Bigger crowd, bigger guitar while aiming for similar tone.

I think it is a preference alone, but I like the rich sound of my two Martins, a dread naught and a orchestra series.

I have a Martin, a Taylor and a Luna. All of them are “babies” and perfect for my 72 year old 5’7 body

I love my Parlor (Stanford). Just right for a petite size player. More comfortable when sitting. And the sound is amazing for its size. And it's not just for the blues... Thanks Andy for posting a video about Parlor guitars!

"Welcome to my parlour, said the spider to the fly". I understood that it was an accessible room where one could bring a beau or belle in and not have him or her in the "proper" part of the house, but sort of at the 1st level of acceptance into the place. And the more "modern" courting of the early 20th century could include a quietly picked or strummed guitar to woo the affections of the intended, if one had the talent! :)

Not a new trend. I have been playing smaller body guitars since my first Martin .. a 1939 00-17 bought in 1961. Currently own a 2015 00-18V.

I'm not terribly terribly worried about my room in the summer because the AC runs and tends to dry out my rather small room enough to lower the RH from 65% or so normally in the house in the summer to somewhere in the 50%s, which is easy peasy. In the winter though, I have a programmable humidifier that I keep running mostly and have to refill every 1-2 days. Always keep the guitars in cases with a humidipak when it's gonna be somewhere that fluctuates for a period of time (going out of town or I know I'm not gonna play for a few days).

Good job my Friend.. Something I like to do, is play in the dark. Turning out all the lights eliminates all distractions and this helps with ear training as well as chord changing. Have a great day.

Tuning a 12-string is easy: find the one string that's out of tune then tune the other 11 to that one.

Any tips on holding down a G without using the index finger. Some fingerstyle books use this so you can pick melody notes with the index finger, I just find it unstable, keep practising and strengthening i guess...

I had the pleasure of seeing Utah perform on many occasions. Great songwriter, joke teller. Criminally under appreciated.

It depends in the construction and materials. I have several guitars but amongst them is a Martin 0 - 28 12 fret, it’s a tiny guitar yet sounds not only full bodied but also open and articulate. This is no doubt due to its construction using premium tone woods through out and animal glue on the other hand I have fender parlour 00 size that’s made with solid woods that sounds a bit “shut in “ and boxy of course the Martin is hand made and approx 10 times the price of the fender but the fact remains that not all small guitars are boxy.

I just thought of another reason I don't look at the fretting hand: I keep looking out at my audience to see they are safe and sitting. Playing in an assisted living, memory care, or nursing home requires the residents to sit. That is why I sit. Some may get up without their walkers, and that's not safe. If I stand and call them by name, I can usually get them to sit before the nurse can get there. For that reason, I always wear a strap.Thanks Andy, for my new warm-up progression. Thanks Andy, I am not sure I fully understand the chord sequence you demonstrated but I'll watch it through again (and again and again......). I notice you have the Scales and Modes book on display on many of you videos, is this worth buying? I also note that the same authors have at least 3 other books including Guitar chords, Advanced Chords and strumming patterns. Do you have an opinion on the value of such books?

Very important lesson for beginners to learn chord shapes and be able to change in the dark...hey, I like your chirping birds fx..lol

LOL! Some of us gave up looking when I discovered I couldn't see the chords. I have 2 guitars that only have side dots, blank fretboard.

Nice playing! -Just a point.. I tend to agree with you that that guitar wasn't made to be played with a pick, but evidently Eastman did. Why else would they have installed a pickguard?

Wow guitar joints treat ya different in England !!! Don’t get coffee or your own room to try multiple guitars with strings the way ya want in the states !!!

Why is nobody trying out the KOVARs by Martin! Love them!!

I learned the caged system some years ago but never really used it. This simplifies things for me although I am more inclined to use the capo when singing to match my voice pitch.

I own a Martin X series 12 string and in all honesty, it stays in tune for so long. I rarely ever need to tune it 👍🏻

Hi Andy, I remember Guitarist magazine doing a review of the DS2H back in the 90’s I think it was, I might still have the edition somewhere in the loft or garage. I had a hankering for one after reading the article but as you know they’re not as abundant as the D2H dreadnought. I was wondering what light gauge (EJ 16’s) would sound and feel like, I know you prefer EJ17’s with light top strings but a comparison with a full set of lights would be very interesting if you have the time and inclination?
